Over the past year, we have all adapted in different ways since staying at home. From revamping your home office and navigating work-from-home life to channeling your true interior designer and coming up with fun activities for kids to do at home, staying at home has been a whirlwind for all of us.
Keeping your kids entertained while staying in can be especially difficult. However, with a little bit of creativity, you’ll find that there are plenty of at-home-activities to share with the young ones in your house.
Here are a few of our favorite ideas for activities you can do with your kids without leaving home:
Create a time capsule: Consider putting together a little memory box with your kid. Find special items to store in a box and hideaway for a later date in the future. Choose what container you want, decide where you want to keep it and be sure to decorate the time capsule!
Try a tie-dye project: Find a white t-shirt, bandana, or clothing article of your child’s choice and make some time to do some tie dying. This can be a fun activity for both young ones and adults. Be sure to lay down the newspapers or trash bags to avoid making a mess in the house.
Conduct a science experiment: There are plenty of fun, safe, and child-friendly experiments out there. Whether it’s making homemade slime or growing crystals, you can find a project that excites your child. Check out simple DIY experiments online or purchase something a bit more elaborate on Amazon.
Set up a scavenger hunt: Get creative and come up with your very own at-home scavenger hunt. Put together a list of items that your kids have to find throughout the home. You can come up with your own or find existing templates online.
Play board games or complete a puzzle: With so much time now spent behind a screen, sometimes kids and parents alike can enjoy a good-old-fashion board game or puzzle. It’s also an easy way to get some quality time at home with your child.
Learn a new language: If you or your child are interested in picking up another language, consider executing the goal at home. Rosetta Stones offers 24 languages to choose from and learn entirely online. Duolingo is another excellent and free app to help with language learning.
Go on a virtual tour: Even if you and your child can’t leave the house, the Internet has made it possible to go on exciting tours from the comfort of your own home. Consider taking a virtual national park vacation or tour a museum of your choice.
Bake a tasty treat: Spend some quality time with your kid in the kitchen. Find a recipe that sounds tasty and fun to make, then get those aprons ready!
Enjoy a movie night: A simple way to spend time with your kid inside is getting the popcorn popped and turning on a movie. These days there are plenty of options that you can stream or find online.
